In the last few years, Australia has emerged as a fashion powerhouse. Designed in hip cities like Byron Bay, Burleigh and Melbourne, Australian clothing brands have jumped the pond and have made a big splash in California.
Clothing lines from the land down under are unique in that they are a mix of streetwear and beachwear. It’s an aesthetic that I fell in love with while living on the Gold Coast of Australia for 6 months in 2015, and I firmly believe Australian fashion will become more and more popular, especially in fashion-forward cities with warm climates like Los Angeles.
Brands like Ksubi, Barney Cools, Rollas, Zanerobe, Afends, Thrills Co, Globe, Nuew, The Critical Slide Society and Insight have surged in popularity in Hollywood thanks to stores like Aust in Venice and The Local on La Brea in Los Angeles.
The Local.132 by General Pants Co, in particular, is frequented by musicians and athletes, which has helped these brands catch a footing in LA’s streetwear and hip/hop culture.

Aside from urban and beach vibes, Australian labels are great for festivals because they’re stylish, functional and modern. The best part about Australian clothing brands is that they’re affordable when compared to some of the other brands you’ll find in boutiques on La Brea and Elsewhere in Los Angeles.
With all that said, come check out some of these brands for yourself at The Local GPC’s 1-year anniversary party hosted by Chloe Norgaard. These parties are always ‘heaps’ of fun… you don’t know what partying is until you’ve partied with Australians.
There will be music by Sydney-based artist GG Magree and bevos from Budweiser and Siempre.
If you live in LA and appreciate a good party and want to draw some summer 17 fashion inspo, come by and checkout the party. It will be a good time. Thursday, June 2nd!
