Coachella parties have become an attraction all to their own. Over the years, the parties have grown from small gatherings at private residences, to full-flung mini festivals, complete with live music lineups, carnival rides, parking shuttles and event staff. After parties begin when Coachella ends each night, and continue late into the night, or next morning.
There are a wide range of parties during the Coachella weekend: pool parties, VIP Gifting Suites, brand events, underground music events, private parties, record label showcases and more. Goldenvoice and Coachella even have their own official pre-parties and after parties at the Palm Springs Air Museum.
Most parties are hosted by brands that are attempting to connect with the Coachella “crowd” or demographic… namely cool, affluent, tastemakers between 18 and 34. Big brands like McDonalds, H&M and Puma throw parties in hopes that their products will be featured on the social media posts of the influencers they invite.
The best Coachella parties of course, are not open to the public, but are invite-only events. Such events are attended by A-List celebrities, big influencers and many of the musicians that perform at Coachella. Revolve Festival and Bootsy Bellows have been the hot ticket in the desert for the last few years (well actually, you can’t get a ticket, you need to be given a wristband by the event organizers).
But it seems that every year the party organizers try to out-do each other… the Republic Records party the Zenyara Estate last year was unlike the Coachella valley has ever seen. Helicopters shuttled guests into compound, which was turned into a Vegas-like club during the day, and a swanky beach party at night.
Still, the best party during the weekend is the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. There is no other place where you can enjoy such a wide range of music in such a beautiful setting. And if you’re looking for an after party, the Coachella campgrounds are a fun place to decompress after the festival.
How to get into parties
Many of the parties are not open to the public, but are invite-only or a RSVP is required. It helps to know someone “in the industry” that is somehow connected with the event. That will be your best bet.
That said, it is possible to get into some of these parties even if you’re not on the list. First you need to know the location, and you’ll need to arrive early. Once the events have hit capacity, the security is very strict about not letting anyone else in.
Second, you need to act the part. Don’t come to the events wearing sandals, a baseball cap, sports jersey etc. Generally, you’ll need to dress the part, which means dressing trendy.
Third, be nice. It’s amazing how far a smile can go. If you’re nice to the event staff and security, and don’t come in a big group, you might have a shot of getting into one of the Coachella 2018 parties.
It is important to note that none of these events are actually put on my Coachella or Goldenvoice. These are separate events with separate promoters.
