Have you been contemplating a trip from the UK to the US? Are you wondering what COVID requirements are in place for your travels? You’re not alone! This article will outline some of the current COVID requirements and provide information on how to make sure that you have everything necessary before entering the US. Hopefully, this helps clear up some of your questions about traveling from the UK to the US!

COVID Travel Requirements From The UK To The US

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic travel between countries has been increasingly complicated to navigate; restrictions and requirements constantly changing. The past two years have seen a complete shift in the travel industry.

Now with vaccine rollouts and continued health precautions being taken travel is beginning to pick up once again. With the US being one of the hottest destinations it’s no wonder many from all across the UK wish to resume travel there. Travel restrictions have been relaxed for UK citizens into the US which is great for the travel industry and the economy (this works both ways). However, before you book your next flight it’s important to know what the current COVID requirements are.

1. All Non-immigrant, Non-US Citizens Air Travelers Must Be Vaccinated

As of November 8th, 2021 all non-immigrant, non-US citizens traveling by air are required to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination upon entry. You’re generally considered fully vaccinated two weeks after your final dose of a given vaccine or two weeks after a one-dose vaccine. Make sure that your travel is booked for after this period otherwise you may not be granted entry.

2. Along With Being Fully Vaccinated UK Citizens Will Need Some Form Of Negative Covid Test

Whether a PCR test and/or antigen, travelers will need to have a negative test result. No more than three (3) days before travel. US citizens and people that fall under the exemptions will need to do this within one day of travel. It is suggested that travelers research test providers.

As restrictions have been relaxed for UK citizens there is the option to go with a cheaper alternative to the PCR test which is a lateral flow test. Travelers should also do research into a Day 2 lateral flow test provider that can get results done in a timely manner. It is vital to plan travel dates carefully. Additional travelers will need to check the testing requirements of their chosen airline.

3. Self Quarantine

Travelers that can enter without being fully vaccinated will have to self-quarantine for seven (7) days even with a negative test result. They will also need to take a test within 3 to 5 days after arrival in the US. Fully vaccinated persons will need to take a viral test 3 to 5 days after entry. Those that have recovered from COVID-19 within the past 90 days regardless of vaccination status will not need to take 3 to 5 days after arrival. Different states of quarantine and entry requirements so it is important for you to do your research before booking your travel.

4. Check With Your Airport And Airline

Airports and airlines have their own requirements as well. You will need to pay attention to this. Most require a negative COVID-19 test along with being vaccinated. There are exemptions but to know each one you will have to review the airport and airlines website for updates on requirements.

5. Wear A Mask Or Face Covering

Persons are required to wear masks in certain public areas as mandated by the US President. This includes airports, planes, buses, etc. The full list can be reviewed on the US government website. Travelers should also check the mask requirement for the state they are traveling to as the different states have their own mask mandate. Make sure you keep up-to-date with this information.

Additionally: Travellers Should Test For COVID Immediately Should They Experience Symptoms

It is recommended for travelers to test immediately should they experience the onset of COVID-19 symptoms. This is as much for the protection of the general public but also for the individual/s as seeking treatment immediately can help to prevent or severe symptoms. Travelers are also encouraged to take the necessary health precautions at all times. Make sure to wash your hands and sanitize frequently. You should also avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Cough into a tissue or the fold of your elbow and always wash your hands afterward when possible.

Along with observing the above requirements, UK travelers should be mindful that restrictions and requirements can change at any time. These changes can affect travel plans and so you should be prepared. Follow public health and safety guidelines while enjoying your travels!
